Allentown Athletix Health and Racquet Club was founded in February 1999.  The club is owned by two business partners who served together on several not-for-profit boards in Western New York.  It was this commitment to community that led the owners to purchase the former University Club facilities.

The University Club had fallen on hard times after a massive fire destroyed most of the front building (540 Delaware) in 1984.  Prior to the fire, the University Club was comprised of four connected buildings, the first of which was built in 1905.  After the fire, the front building was sold to a private owner and the three remaining buildings were separated (538 Delaware) and remained the University Club premises.  But with the loss of the most grand of the buildings, the University Club's membership dwindled from more than 700 to just 32 by 1999.  The three buildings which now comprise Allentown Athletix, were sold to the current owners on February 5, 1999.  Some years later the front building was resold to Ellicott Development which converted the building to the Bellasara apartments.

We set out with a simple mission:  provide a clean, relaxed environment with great equipment for people of all fitness levels, thus supporting the goal of good health.  We followed a simple premise:  treat people the way we would want to be treated.  Accordingly, there are never any aggressive sales tactics.  It is our belief that if you treat someone well and provide a good service, the sales will naturally follow.  The staff is evaluated primarily on service and relationship building, not just sales quotas.

We continue to improve our facilities every year.  It seems we're just not happy without an improvement project in the works!
